Kids@Kings – Helping Kids in Guernsey Get Active

I have been wanting to get fit for a long time and had very good intentions of doing something from home…how hard can it be to participate in a Youtube workout for 30 minutes, 3 times a week? Well, clearly impossible for me as I never got around to it! Admitting defeat, I took the bull by the horns and went along to the Kings Premier Health Club for a look round and to see if it could help me get my motivation back. Aside from the club having recently had a super smart renovation to the gym and changing areas, and with a nearly finished new clubroom dining area, I was most impressed by their focus on making Kings a place for the whole family thanks to the launch of Kids@Kings earlier this year.  Kids@Kings is being led by renowned Guernsey tennis player and coach Rob West and as someone who has never considered the need for my girls to join a health club, it certainly made me reconsider thanks to how much they offer.

GWK Kids at Kings Guernsey

Kids@Kings is a club within a club, aimed at providing after-school and weekend classes for children from 2years old, along with holiday camps.  Rob and his team are passionate about getting kids active knowing that exercise is hugely beneficial in helping to combat stress and anxiety and can help to improve focus and concentration levels.  They offer a range of classes including tennis coaching, swimming lessons (I had a nightmare finding lessons for my girls, wish I’d known about this before!), high energy Born to Move, dance classes and Acro.  Classes are available to members and non-members of Kings (members pay a reduced rate).

Exercise for Teens

Kids@Kings is not just for young kids, they also offer a Teen Boot Camp, a 45-minute class structured for teenagers under the supervision of one of their qualified personal trainers. The class is both effective and enjoyable, with the aim of helping teenagers to develop their athleticism and confidence.  This unique and supportive fitness environment enables teenagers to keep fit, strong and healthy whilst developing positive attitudes towards health and fitness that will hopefully last a lifetime.

Holiday Club

I had a number of friends whose children went to the Kings holiday club during the summer and they all had very positive things to say about it because the children took part in so many varied activities, including tennis, swimming, dance, arts & crafts, martial arts, drama, Born to Move and more!  The school holiday clubs are aimed at teaching children a range of new skills, with development, fun and fitness at the heart of everything on offer, and due to its popularity, they had a waiting list for many of the weeks during the summer and the October half term club proved just as popular.

A visit to Kings certainly got me thinking about how it could benefit our family, I like the thought of doing an exercise class whilst my girls enjoyed an activity for them. Speaking to Sean Mills, the Club Manager he said “The addition of Kids@Kings fits perfectly with the Kings vision of becoming a true family hub, where all ages can work to improve their health and fitness while also spending quality and productive family time together.”

With the aim of creating positive attitudes towards physical activity that will last a lifetime, I think Kids@Kings is a great addition to our island.  If you would like to know more visit www.kings.gg/kids or email kids@kings.gg
