Guernsey with Kids

Rocquaine Bay

A vast sandy beach with beautiful views of the Cup and Saucer (Fort Grey). Home to the popular Rocquaine Regatta, a full day event in the summer featuring entertainment and activities for people of all ages.  There are no facilities at the bay however, The Guernsey Pearl café is behind the bay and Portelet kiosk is a short walk away.

Location

Rocquaine Bay is located on Guernsey’s West Coast, next to one of Guernsey’s most iconic landmarks, Fort Grey, known by locals as the Cup and Saucer.  There is on-street parking to the left of the beach, next to a flight of steps to access the beach.

Thanks to it’s westerly position, the sunsets from Rocquaine Bay can be spectacular…

The Beach

This sweeping bay offers a large expanse of soft sand and great rock pooling and it rarely gets busy like the more popular west coast beaches further up the coast.

Low Tide

Guernsey’s tidal range is huge and on a beach like Rocquaine you can really see it. At low tide it’s like the sea has gone out miles! With a huge expanse of sand on show and vast rocky areas that look like the surface of the moon, it is totally unrecognisable from high tide.

High Tide

Often at high tide there is no beach left at Rocquaine, and in stormy weather, the seawater can crash over the sea wall!

Facilities

There are no facilities at Rocquaine Beach, however, Guernsey Pearl is located behind the beach which has a nice café.

A 5 minutes walk away is a really nice beach Kiosk at Portelet offering hot and cold food, drinks, ice creams and beach essentials (bucket and spade etc), along with numerous table and chairs. There is also a toilet block that is open year-round.

Outside Seating At Portelet Kiosk

For those wanting a more substanial meal, the Imperial Hotel is located before Portelet Kiosk. The hotel has a modern restaurant and large outside dining area with a good menu of hot and cold food. The Imperial has a good kids menu but we have learnt that the kids meals are MASSIVE, to the point their roast totally overwhelms our girls!
