The Beach

GWK Vazon Bay

Vazon beach is approximately a mile and a half long, making it Guernsey’s longest beach, and on most days you’ll see wind surfers and kite surfers enjoying the biggest surf in Guernsey. The Guernsey Surf School operates from the beach, offering surf lessons and surfing/body boarding equipment for hire.

A trip to Vazon beach is not just for daytime, Vazon offers spectacular sunset views so you’ll often see people on the beach in the summer, late afternoon, settling in to see a beautiful Guernsey sunset.

Low Tide

At low tide, Vazon is a beautiful place to be, with over a mile of soft white sand it’s a great choice for a family beach trip. With plenty of room for beach games and crystal clear water, it offers something for everyone.

Hide Tide

As with the majority of beaches in Guernsey, the beach can be non-existent at high tide, so you must check the tides before planning a beach trip to Vazon.

Facilities

There are plenty of facilities at Vazon Bay making it an easy choice for a family beach trip. At the Richmond end of the beach (southern end), there is a great beach kiosk that is open year-round plus a toilet block and good parking.

Richmond Kiosk is very popular and for good reason. It offers a good selection of homemade food (the large selection of freshly baked cookies is always a winner with us!), hot and cold drinks, and reasonably priced Guernsey ice cream.

At the other end of the beach (northern end) is Vistas Cafe and across the road, the ever-popular Crabby Jacks restaurant. Vistas Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and early dinner with inside and outside seating.

Crabby Jacks is located across the road from Vistas and is one of the most family-friendly restaurants in Guernsey. You’ll think you’ve stepped into America/ Hawaii when you enter Crabby Jacks thanks to the decor and Hawaiian shirts worn by the waiting staff. The main attraction for families is the amazing outdoor play area, plus if the weather’s not good, they have TV screens throughout the indoor area showing kids films (with no sound) and they give the kids colouring sheets and pencils. The only downside is that costs can add up and a meal can end up quite pricey, generally thanks to the massive ice cream selection at the entrance that is too hard to resist!

Fort Hommet

At the northern end of the beach there is a nature reserve, Fort Hommet and the Fort Hommet Gun Casemate Bunker, with a path leading from the beach to the fort and bunker. We love exploring the fort and it also offers great views back over Vazon Bay.

Footpath From Richmond Kiosk to Vistas Cafe

If you don’t fancy spending time on the beach, then Vazon could still be the place for you. The coastal path path runs behind Vazon Bay and makes for a lovely walk from Richmond Kiosk to the other end of Vazon Beach.

The walk gives you chance to take in the beautiful views of Vazon Bay and for kids, it’s a real adventure, with lots of up and down areas, concrete steps to jump off, walls to balance on and old WWII structures to explore.
