La Jaonneuse Bay

A small cove located close to the much larger Pembroke Beach, with soft sand, clear water and lots of rocks to explore as the tide goes out. The perfect spot for those wanting a more peaceful beach experience.

Location

La Jaonneuse Bay is located on Les Hures Road, to the left of Pembroke beach, and it’s very easy to miss, we actually found it by accident after walking on the headland to Fort Pembroke and found it whilst walking back to the car.

When coming from Pembroke Beach, look out for the Bay de la Jaonneuse Loophole Tower as the road bends, and La Jaonneuse Beach is off the road ahead of you.  There is space for a few cars to park to the right the beach and 1 space behind the beach.

The Beach

GWK La Jaonneuse

A beautiful cove of soft white sand and crystal-clear water, and as very few people have heard of it, you will more than likely have the beach to yourself!

The beach is accessed via a cobbled slipway.

At high tide, water comes to the end of the slipway, with a tiny section of sand remaining uncovered.

Rocks line the back of the beach, which the girls enjoy climbing on.  Tilly was climbing the rocks around the headland and followed the rocks onto the ones at the back of the beach, that’s how we found it!

Rock Climbing

To the right of La Jaonneuse Bay is the Pembroke Headland, one of our favourite places to take the girls as they love climbing the rocks. There are rocks of all sizes so good for little legs, but also some challenging climbs for big kids (and adults!).

Facilities

There are no facilities at La Jaonneuse Bay, however, the beach kiosk, cafe and toilets at Pembroke Beach are just 5 minutes walk away.

The kiosk sells hot and cold drinks, snacks and ice creams.  The Beach House is a relaxed and informal beach cafe overlooking Pembroke Beach with ample seating inside and out. With a range of food and drinks available including hot and cold lunch options, cakes, snacks and ice cream. They also offer a take-away option so food/ drink can be enjoyed on the beach. Lottie is particularly keen on the babyccino’s and chocolate cake!

La Jaonneuse Bay is a secret cove offering a piece of paradise on Guernsey’s North Coast. It’s not somewhere we would think of for a beach trip, however, not sure why, it’s beautiful! We highly recommend taking the footpath around the headland, even for those not interested in, as Lottie calls it, ‘real rock climbing’ , the views are well worth the stroll.
