Guernsey with Kids

Goodbye 2020 Treasure Hunt

Following on from the success of our October Half Term Treasure Hunt, we have decided to do it all again after Christmas!  This time we’ll be saying a big Guernsey farewell to 2020, the year that we all can’t wait to see the back of!

We may have been lucky in Guernsey with such a well managed pandemic however, we can’t underestimate the impact it has had on everyone, from businesses that are suffering, to the emotional impact on those young and old.  We’ve teamed up with the States of Guernsey again to end 2020 on a high note, most of us are spending the Christmas holidays in Guernsey so what better reason to wrap up warm and head outside hunting for treasure and great prizes.

New locations, new prizes and new treasure, happy hunting!

How it Works

  1. Find The Loot: 9 treasure boxes have been hidden across the island packed full of treasure.  All you have to do is follow the treasure map to locate a loot box.
  2. Trade Treasure: As we want there to be loot for all treasure hunters, feel free to take something from the treasure box but please can you swap your loot for something that you bring with you (if you have Geocached before you will be used to the idea of trading/swaps).  They only need to be small items, a great way to use party bag and cracker toys that lie around the house!
  3. Return the Treasure Box: Once you’ve traded your loot please put the box back where you found it. It’s as simple as that!

As you can see, treasure boxes are hidden across the island.  You might be very familiar with some of the locations, whereas others might be totally new to you, therefore, we’ve written a full write-up of each location including a map, parking info, lots of photos and details. Just click on the location title below to go through to the more info page for that treasure spot.

This playground is up there amongst our favourites because it’s great fun for children of all ages.  The playground is behind Beau Sejour Leisure Centre and adjacent to Cambridge Park, a lovely peaceful large grassed area on the outskirts of St Peter Port.

For more information about Beau Sejour Playground, take a look at our write-up HERE.

This hidden gem of a play area has numerous rope swings hidden amongst the trees.  We lived in Guernsey for 2 years before we even realised it existed, now it’s a firm favourite of ours.  Just up the road from Bordeaux Harbour with stunning scenery, footpath, benches, picnic tables and fantastic rope swings make it a great stop-off for families.

For more info including parking info and more images check out our write-up HERE.

A great park with play equipment for children of all ages, outdoor exercise equipment, paths and ramps for biking, large grassed areas and picnic tables and benches with beautiful views.

For more information, check out our full write-up HERE.

On the walk to the Fairy Ring from Portelet Harbour you come across Fort Pezeries, a coastal defense fort dating back to 1680. Fun to explore with three 18 pounder cannons and the most stunning views of Guernsey’s west coast.

For more information about Fort Pezeries and the walk from Portelet Harbour, check out our write-up HERE.

Our happy place as a family is on the cliffs from Jerbourg point to Petit Port. The views are breath-taking, the path is kid friendly and the treat of a unicorn or hulk hot chocolate at the end, ensures no moaning from the kids!  The treasure is hidden at Jerbourg Point however, if you want to combine treasure hunting with a walk then we highly recommend the walk from  Jerbourg Point to Petit Port.

For more information about Jerbourg Point and the walk to Petit Port check out our write-up HERE.

La Varde Dolmen, on Guernsey’s North Coast, is the largest megalithic structure surviving on Guernsey, dating back between 4000 to 2500 BC! When near Pembroke it is well worth a visit with kids of all ages and also look out for the WWII fortifications nearby.

For more details about La Varde Dolmen check out our write-up HERE.

Le Guet is a natural plyaground for kids and a place we love to visit. This small pine forest offers trees to climb, rope swings, dens and breathtaking views over Cobo Bay.

For full details of Le Guet check out our write-up of the reservoir HERE.

Petit Bot is a picturesque beach on Guernsey’s south coast.  The perfect choice for families in the summer and a great place for a winter walk on the beach (during low tide!).  The walks on the coastal path from Petit Bot in both directions are well worth a try thanks to the stunning views.

For more information about Petit Bot check out our write-up HERE.

Rousse Headland is home to a fully restored loop-hole tower & battery that was originally built in the 19th Century, and still houses 5 cannons today.  Aside from the tower and battery the headland has lots to offer with stunning views of the fishing boats bobbing in the water, a footpath leading you round the coast, great swimming off the stone wall (we’re certainly not brave enough to try this in the winter!) and a welcoming kiosk.

For more information about Rousse and Le Grand Havre read our write-up HERE.
