We’ve just had a really enjoyable afternoon at the OGH’s Alpine Lodge Family Sunday, thanks to the snow machine, hot chocolate station, chocolate fountain, Christmas crafts, and a visit from Father Christmas with pressies! It was our second visit to the Alpine Lodge, we loved it last year, so had high expectations for this year, and it certainly didn’t disappoint, read on for all the details…
Entering the Alpine Lodge
The Alpine Lodge is located within The Old Government House Hotel in St Peter Port, with the entrance just off the hotel foyer. As soon as you enter you feel like you have walked into a ski chalet, thanks to the snowy scenery, rustic wooden walls, flickering fire, barrel tables, skis, sledges, and sofas with chunky rugs and fleeces. Once greeted at the entrance, adults are given ski passes and everyone is asked what welcome drink they would like. There are hot chocolates for children and a choice of drinks for adults including mulled wine. After we had given our drinks orders, we were shown to our table.
It's Snowing!
After being shown to our table, the girls were taken to the little outside courtyard and were overly excited to see snow!! The snow machine was belting out snow which they covered themselves in in no time! The fake snow proved a big hit with all the kids throughout the afternoon.
Christmas Crafts
A new addition to the Alpine Lodge this year is a craft box for each table. This was a massive hit with my girls who love crafting. The box included a vast selection of crafts from decorating baubles and making a snowman to scratch art.
Ski Lift Photos
It’s hard to walk past the ski lift without raiding the prop basket and taking some silly photos! There were lots of props to choose from including Christmas glasses, hats, ski wear and so much more that my girls kept going back for a new look!
Not your average hot chocolate...
If you order a hot chocolate, you get to create it yourself at the Hot Chocolate Station, this was a major highlight for my girls. You grab a glass and pour the hot chocolate from the urn then get to work on the toppings. With sprinkles, marshmallows, chocolate flakes, and whipped cream to choose from, it took quite a while for my girls to create their hot chocolates!
Ski Passes
Your ski pass gives you your welcome drink, food and a further drink from the bar. Once you order your drink, your pass is stamped to show you have had it. In terms of food, adults get White Bean and Thyme Soup, Slow Roasted Pulled Pork with Mashed potato and Black Cherry and Kirsch Ganache for desert (with vegetarian alternatives available) and kids get to choose from Sesame Chicken Strips, Fish Goujons and Beef Burger.
Chocolate Heaven!
Like most children I’m sure, my girls love a chocolate fountain, and when they saw it today, Lottie’s eyes nearly popped out of her head!! There were so many things to dip into it including marshmallows, strawberries, melon, chocolate brownie, choux buns and sponge cake! I told my girls they had to eat proper food first, then have it for pudding, but that was like torture for them and they both practically inhaled their main course so they could get to the chocolate fountain!
Father Christmas
To top off a fantastic afternoon, Father Christmas arrived with a sack full of pressies, much to the delight of all the children. He was fully surrounded as he entered and managed to make his way to sit on the ski lift chair. After a picture with Santa my girls opened their gift and were really pleased to be given a Needoh which they loved.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2nd visit to the OGH and made some lovely memories and felt very Christmassy when we left. The new addition of the craft box for each table, made it even better than last year. It’s quite pricey at £49 per adult, £25 for children 13 – 17 years and £20 for children 12 and under, however, it is a unique experience and a really special afternoon.
