The adjoining bays of Chouet and Ladies Bay offer soft white sand, crystal-clear water, rock climbing, rock pooling and excellent facilities, making it a great family beach choice.
Location
Chouet and Ladies Bay are situated off Mont Cuet Road, on the edge of L’Ancresse Common, and they mark the end of the west coast. The only point to note, is that they are located very close to the islands landfill site, so if there is a notherly wind, you might want to give Chouet a miss because the smell can be overwehelming, however, a simple walk down the beach to Ladies Bay and you will be fine. This doesn’t happen often so don’t let it put you off this lovely family-friendly beach.
There is ample parking at Chouet, to the right of the beach, just off the coast road. Ladies Bay is located next to Les Amarreurs Beach with a large parking area for both beaches.
The Beach
There is no clear distinction between the 2 beaches, when facing the sea, Chouet is on the right and Ladies Bay is on the left.
These large sweeping bays of soft sand offer some of the best swimming on the west coast, thanks to the gentle slope into the sea, making it safe for even the youngest swimmers, and the headland that extends to the right of Chouet (with loophole tower No.10), keeps the water calm.
Ladies Bay is popular with watersport enthusiasts and you will often see windsurfers and kite surfers enjoying the water.
Both beaches have a bank of rocks at the back, which provide shelter and kids love climbing on them!
Both beaches are easy to access with large slipways onto the beach.
Low Tide
Low tide sees a beautiful carpet of soft sand at Chouet and Ladies Bay, though it does make it a lengthy walk into the sea for a dip!
High Tide
A small bank of sand remains at Ladies Bay and Chouet at high tide…
Facilities
The facilities at Chouet are very good, with a beach Kiosk, restaurant and toilets. Woodies Kiosk sits high above Chouet beach and serves hot and cold drinks and snacks and ice creams. Behind Chouet car park sits Roc Salt, a beach cafe and restaurant with a varied menu offering high quality food. Open for lunch and dinner daily (except Mondays).
At Ladies Bay, Silly Cow Kiosk sits at the entrance to the beach serving great ice creams and milkshakes. There are toilets next to the playground behind the carpark.
