Le Guet is a hidden gem and a well kept secret that took us over a year to find out about! Le Guet is a small pine forest which offers trees to climb, rope swings, dens and hundreds of blackberries to pick (in season). It also gives a breathtaking view over Cobo Bay.
Location
Le Guet is located behind Cobo Community Centre, just behind Cobo Bay, on Guernsey’s West Coast. The entrance to the Community Centre is quite hidden on Rue De La Lande and there is ample parking past the Community Centre.
Fun For Kids
The collection of century old Monterey pine trees makes Le Guet feel like no other place in Guernsey. The trees shade a large area of land leading down to the Cobo Coast Road. There are lots of logs for kids to climb on and a number of rope swings hanging from the trees which kids love to swing on.
If you like blackberries, then head to Le Guet in August as it’s a fantastic place for blackberry picking. Remember to take wellies or at least wear trainers, we didn’t and our flip flops led to lots of prickles on our feet!
The Watch-House
On the right hand side of the forest is a small path that leads up to the watch-house. The path is a little steep but it is well worth the walk up because from the watch-house you get the most stunning view over Cobo Bay.
The Napoleonic watch-house seen today was built in 1780. Its position gives stunning views of the west coast and several miles out to sea. There are a few benches past the watch-house that give the most breathtaking view of Cobo Bay and beyond. There are railings around the edge but care must be taken with small children because there is a steep drop beyond the railings.
We’re really pleased we found Le Guet as it’s the perfect place to visit when the kids want a run-around. The view from the watch-house never gets any less special whatever the tide and time of year.
